Pastels are often used for delicate and/or natural subjects such as flowers, landscapes and the human face. However I enjoy depicting hard and heavy objects in my pastels paintings. This piece of railroad equipment certainly fits the heavy object category. I hope the viewer senses the weight of the steel ball along with the wear and tear from years of work on the tracks.
