Monthly Musings

Studying and viewing other artists, old and new, increases your vocabulary for your own art. This is sometimes conscious as you create and other times pops up sometime along the process of creating. I loved the colors in these two trains, but struggled with the best composition. I wanted to included the details of the rivets and their shadows and the textures provided by the vents and screening. After trying numerous arrangements with my cardboard corners, I finally decided on this composition. After drawing the image on my paper I stepped back and realized I had drawn a composition after Mondrian with large blocks of color and horizontal and vertical lines. Thus the title of the painting, Musing on Mondrian.
